Original era manufacture. Tan ceramic wall plate measuring 8 inches in width. Honoring the 79th Infantry Division, Christmas 1940, Tapfer und Treu!. During WWII, the division saw service during the 1940 campaign in France, and later on the Eastern Front with Army Group South. It formed part of the 9th Army which was encircled and destroyed at Stalingrad in 1943. Rebuilt in the summer of 1943, it was once more encircled and destroyed in Romania in 1944. Reformed for a third time in the fall of 1944, this time as a Volksgrenadier Division, where it fought in the West during the Battle of the Bulge, where it earned the praise of their American opponents. No damage, maker marked Villeroy & Boch, Mettlach on the reverse.
