Original era manufacture. A recent purchase of ours from the hands of the US Army Signal Corps soldier's Grandson, who brought the dagger home with him at the end of WWII.A very clean blade, maker marked by Eickhorn, withmost of the original cross grain polish visible, with a few spots of staining, but no corrosion pitting. The thin blue leather bumper is intact at the base of the blade, nickel-silver fittings throughout. Light wear to the leather grip covering, notears or flaking. Nice old silver patina finish to the guard and pommel. The scabbard has all of its fitting screws present. Again, nickel-silver fittings, with several period markings in the top of the scabbard throat. The scabbard body has some very shallow denting on each side of the scabbard edge, with subsequent surface loss of the leather covering. The good news is that the exposed surface has nicely toned with age, which blends well with the overall patina of the scabbard. The scabbard ball tip is just ever so slightly flattened. The hanger, is, in my opinion, a period replacement done by the original German owner, and quite cleverly accomplished. I do not believe it was done by the GI, after all, why would he bother, and secondly, the replacement strap is meant to support the weight of the dagger in wear. An honest, original DLV knife, ready for your collection.
