Original period mailing. Envelope and letter sent by Uffz. Franke to his wife in Berlin, 1 July 1944. Feldpost number 40771 B, which was assigned to IR 994 (278th Infantry Division) which was stationed in Italy at that time. The 278th surrendered in northern Italy in May 1944. Clear eagle postmark in the upper right corner, soldiers rank, name and FP number written vertically on the left edge of the envelope.
