German WWII Hardwood K98 Mauser Stock, Flat Buttplate, 5628

Original era manufacture. This is an interesting stock, part of our recent delivery from Norway, yet it is without the Norwegian applied serial number on the butt plate. In addition, the stock and the upper handguard match themselves, serial number 5290, yet the metal fittings, upper & lower barrel bands, band spring, bayonet lug and butt plate display another serial number, 5628. There is an early Reichswehr style waffenamt on the stock face WaA63, with the stock discs displaying the same codeand the other metal fittings displaying a waffenamt code of WaA655. Did this stock remain in private hands since the end of WWII, perhaps a rebuild by the Germans themselves? Fun to speculate. Dark wood finish, sound overall.
