Original era manufacture. Heer M1940 pattern steel helmet with a tan camouflage paint finish, with finger applied, thin black striping, over the original factory dark green. No trace of the decal is visible, and overall the shell exhibits considerable service use, with the tan paint applied over the surface of the well-worn, original green factory paint. On the top of the helmet the painted surface has been worn down in several spots to the bare steel, which in turn, displays a dark steel patina finish. The rivet heads all have the same camouflage color, and in my opinion are original to the helmet and have never been removed, as the pins and slot washers have never been touched. The liner is basically intact, the adjusting string is present, however the end of one of the fingers has broken away, but still remains attached to the string. Intact and pliable original leather chinstrap.
