German WWII Heer Double Etched Blade Dress Bayonet, Eickhorn, Geb.Jager Rgt 98
Item #69052 : Original period manufacture. Double etched blade by Eickhorn, measuring 7.75 inches in length. Chromed steel with full etched panels on each side, obverse displaying a Heer pattern eagle with the slogan "Zur Erinnerung um Meine Dienstzeit", the reverse, Geb. Jager Regiment 98, Mittenwald and the Eickhorn trademark. The blade is clean, only some light surface scratching from the scabbard runners. Alloy, chrome finished guard and pommel with an operable lock button. Original stag horn grips. Blue finished steel scabbard, dent free, the surface shows scattered areas of corrosion, but no deep pitting. Sound black patent leather frog the surface of which displays the typical crazing. Original Heer NCO knot correctly tied around the waist of the frog. Overall the bayonet exhibits normal wear and use, no real issues, the blade is a tad loose but that is it. During WWII, Gebirgs Regiment 98 served with the 100th Mountain Division, seeing combat from the invasion of Poland in 1939, to it's surrender to American Forces in Austria in 1945. During it's war service, it was involved in a number of ferocious war crimes against prisoners of war and civilians. These occurred in nearly every operational theater it was posted to, a blemish to an otherwise hard fighting and reliable combat division. Have you checked the price of an unattributed SS enlisted dagger lately?
