Original period manufacture. Four pocket, summer weight, feldgrau gaberdine wool service coat, once worn by Generalmajor Friedrich Kittel (1896-1973), who was awarded the Ritterkreuz in January 1945. Pleated pockets with pointed flaps, gilt pebbled buttons throughout. Machine sewn general officer pattern collar tabs, hand sewn gold wire coat eagle, original sewn general officer shoulder boards in the rank of Generalmajor, a rank he was promoted to on December 23rd 1944. The inner pocket lining displays the tailor tag from the prestigious firm of Wilhelm Holters of Berlin. It bears the date of February 1944, and identifies the owner as Oberst F.Kittel. Friedrick Kittel joined the German Army in June of 1915, serving to the end of WWI. During his wartime he was severely wounded on 29 August 1918, however he remained in the army postwar. During WWII he commanded the 468th Infantry Rgt 1940-42, later he served in an assortment of staff commands until late 1944 when he was promoted to Generalmajor and given the command of the 62nd Volksgrenadier Division, which he commanded until February 1945. He entered captivity in May of 1945 and was released in June 1947. The coat is in very sound condition, no moth issues to mention, with all of the insignia and buttons securely attached to the uniform. Full imitation silk body lining, with a striped lining to each sleeve. Size is a snug 40 regular. There are loops above the upper left pocket for a long ribbon bar, and numerous loops on the pocket itself for several awards and badges. There are no loops on the right upper pocket, although records indicate he was awarded the German Cross in Gold in 1942.
