Original period manufacture. Early war quality feldgrau wool surcoat, double breasted with a slash chest pocket on each side and a flapped hip pocket below. Each front shoulder area is covered in pliable gray leather. The overcoat is lined completely with rabbit fur, with imitation silk sleeve lining. Half belt in the back, with a French cuff at the end of each sleeve, and loops for removable shoulder straps. Large shawl type collar, once equipped with a gray wool hood, this was removed, perhaps for the nuisance factor. Overall the coat exhibits honest age and service wear, several scattered moth bites with the largest shown in our photos. All metal buttons are present and the coat displays very nicely, the vent closure buttons in the back of the coat are missing. These scarce coats were intended for exposed vehicle drivers and crew personnel and as a guard coat for guards and sentries. See Volume 1, page 133, Uniforms and Traditions of the German Army 1933-1945, Angolia & Schlicht.
