Original era publication. This is a very poignant set, to me graphically illustrating the human tragedy of war through one young husband and wife caught up in its carnage. The soldier worked as an automobile electrician before the war, she a sales clerk. He entered the army on the 10th of June 1941 and received instruction with the MG34 and K98 rifle. He was posted to the Ostfront in August of 1942 and was killed in action on the 14th of October 1943. Handwritten letters, an inventory of personal effects sent home to his family and other documents are included. Perhaps the most personally revealing portion of this sad but common story is the photograph of the two of them at a beach prior to his leaving for the front. She has playfully put on portions of his uniform and holds him tightly in her arms. He, being a young husband, is still embarrassed by her public display of affection, afterall, he's a proud member of the Wehrmacht now, but still appears to be enjoying himself nonetheless. She must have been devastated by the news of his death as she kept these few momentos the rest of her life.
