Original period manufacture. A fairly complete example, with both the canvas shoulder strap, and short belt strap. Spare lenses in the lid compartment, with a well marked mask filter. What makes this example unique are the numerous examples of the efforts taken by the original owner, to make sure his gasmask was identified to himself. His name was Heinrich Hamm II, who served with a Luftwaffe Flak Searchlight unit (feldpost number (L) 52597) during the war. His last name is carefully scratched into the top of the canister lid, carefully painted on the bottom as well. There are two paper labels affixed to the spare lens compartment lid, and his unit designation III/96 can be seen on the top of the canister and on the mask as well. Evidence of white paint can be seen on the recesses of the lid and on the straps, which may indicate a winter camo overpaint at one time. Pliable rubber facemask size marked 3, full head harness and neck strap. Should be a fun research project.
