Original era manufacture. Standard WWII pattern German K98 rifle bayonet, produced by Germany and sold to Portugal in 1937 and 1941. Satin blue finish to the blade, guard and pommel mixed with steel patina. Original finish wood grips, the lock button works properly. Two waffenamt proofs appear on the pommel, both look to be the same, WaA253, a generic acceptance code used by most blade manufacturers. One online source states that this code indicates the first year contract of 1937, which is reinforced by the quality of the manufacture. On the side of the pommel the serial number D 17459 appears, another indicator of a Portuguese contract bayonet. When we purchased this bayonet, it was without a scabbard, we had a spare K98 cof 44 marked scabbard available, and added it to complete.
