Original era manufacture. This very clean WWII K98 rifle sling is part of a recent purchase by SMA, of a wide variety of interesting militaria, some of which has been in storage here in the USA since the 1970's.The sling leather is very supple, and is complete with strap, stock tab, leather strap slide and the small leatherpad under the adjusting buckle is present as well. On the underside of the stock tab are clear makers markings, bad 1942.John Walter in his book German Military Letter Codes, identifies the badletter series as being assigned to the firm of Leo Schmidt, oHG Munchen, a specialist maker of straps and belts. The underside of the strap body has the same markings, although not quite as clear as thetab, these can be seen just below the stitching which holds the adjusting buckle in place.Nice dark brown leather color with a fairly clear cross X pattern on the topside of the strap. A really nice sling.
