Original era document and photography. An interesting lot consisting of an original Iron Cross 2nd Class award document, presented to a Kriegsmarine sailor in June of 1944, Maschinenobergefreiten Herbert Gobel. Signed by a Kapitan zur See, commander of the Schnellboot. In addition, three original black and white photographs of the cruiser Prinz Eugen, each with information written on the reverse. The image of the flak gun on the superstructure of the cruiser tells of the ship accompanying the Bismarck and the sinking of HMS Hood. The photo of the three crewman(the central sailor is wearing a HighSeas Fleet badge)relates the tale of the RAF attack on the Prinz Eugen 17 May 1942 by 37 torpedo bombers. The photo of Prinz Eugen herself, states prior to joining up with Bismarck 16 May 1941, taken at Gottenhafen. Interesting lot, purchased during our trip to Germany last September.
