Original era manufacture. This is an interesting, handheld compass which may be part of a meteorological weather testing set. The device measures 6.75 inches in length overall, with a three inch machined brass handle which turns easily. The compass casing is 8-sided, measures 3.30 inches, with a 2.25 inch glass bezel.The compass points North, and displays the letter O (Ost) for East. No markings whatsoever on this well made piece of equipment.The fitted wooden transport case is of dovetail construction with a fold-down brass handle on top, with the top being secured with two brass hooks. On the side of the case is a nomenclature plaque decorated with an eagle and swastika and a large letter M. Additional markings shown are, A.r.t.l. Nr. 104542. Light age and wear.
