Original era manufacture. This interesting badge has been in our possession for several years now, stuck back in a drawer, more or less forgotten about, until our recent house (inventory)-cleaning regimen adopted by Terri and I.It is a full size badge, of copper, hollow back, with the reverse filled with silver solder, with a silver wash on the obverse. A thin, magnetic, non-movable hinge attaching pin was cast into the solder filled reverse, along with a copper catch hook at the bottom. I realize this is a leap of faith, however this badge was purposefully made, with considerable effort expended in its manufacture. It certainly is not a copy made to deceive, it's too crude, but I feel made to honor the awarding of this badge to an individual aboard a ship, as all of its components would be readily available on board, copper wire, solder and so on.Over the years I have seen numerous examples of other modified medals used in time of need; EK 2's converted into a First Class...or even a Knight's Cross. Other examples are metal insignia produced in POW camps using the material from toothpaste tubes. This badge is not for everyone, but I feel it to be 100% of the era.
