Original period manufacture. A complete late war M1942 steel helmet which was never fitted with a decal. Dark ordnance green paint, all rivets with washers are present,complete liner with original drawstringand an original leather chinstrap. The paint finish rates at 90%, the liner shows wear to the surface at the front edge, none of the fingers are broken and remains pliable but slightly puckered from age. While I was handling the helmet for this description, a weak spot below the chinstrap buckle finally gave way.We replaced the damaged chinstrap with another original chinstrap from our spares box. It is sound, unbroken with a painted steel buckle, aluminum connectorsand displays normal age and wear.Unmodified late war helmets tend to be fairly scarce, as most have been "dressed up" with the addition of postwar applied decals. Our Pal Judge Jim jokingly refers to these late helmetsas the "pre-SS pattern", as so many have been upgraded over the years. Size stamped in the liner 56.
