Original period manufacture. A complete late war M1942 steel helmet which was never fitted with a decal. Dark ordnance green paint, all rivets with washers are present, complete original to the helmet liner with original drawstring and an original leather chinstrap. The oval ink stamp is visible inside the crown but smeared when installed. The paint finish rates at least a 90% rating, the liner shows a small rub wear spot to the rear edge, with staining on that edge and left side edge; none of the fingers are broken overall the leather remains pliable. Unbroken RBN marked original chinstrap, with a steel adjusting buckle. On the right side of the helmet the remnants of a 2x2 inch paper tag can be seen, Terri suggested in might have been a mailing label, or perhaps the Veteran wrote down some details of where he picked up the helmet. We'll never know for certain but things like that were done back in the day. The helmet measures 9.5 inches side to side, edge to edge. Unmodified late war helmets tend to be fairly scarce, as most have been "dressed up" with the addition of postwar applied decals. Our Pal Judge Jim jokingly refers to these late helmets as the "pre-SS pattern", as so many have been upgraded over the years. It remains an honest late-war German helmet, ready for your collector case or shelf.
