Original era manufacture. Original German WWII Luftschutz gladiator helmet made into a kitchen colander. This is an early example of someone reusing a piece of military equipment for a practical use postwar. As time moved on past May 1945, conversions like this became more sophisticated with many examples of equipment being converted for practical use; gasmask cannister water pitchers, helmets converted into cooking pots etc. The later examples were often nicely enameled, with welded handles, giving the product a nice, finished look to it. This one is an example of "I need it now!" technology. It is the top portion of a three-piece gladiator helmet, with the bottom crudely flattened so as to not roll about, with the crown pierced at center with four nail holes. On the front of the helmet, the Luftschutz decal is fairly intact, but the front is dented, and the swastika has been defaced with a strike from a blunt object. This is a really cool object, for the helmet collector who has everything!
