Original era manufacture. These combat Luftschutz helmets have generally been referred to as factory seconds, not suitable for front-line service but perfect for secondary use. We've always liked these combat LS helmets, but can't remember ever seeing an obvious production defect until this example came along. On the right side of the helmet next to the stamped ventilator is an additional hole drilled in the shell, the same diameter as the one inside the ventilator. Cool. Smokey patina, complete decal, with about 90% of the blue paint finish remaining on the shell. Odd, alligator skin surface oil cloth lining with its original military style adjusting string. Intact black leather chinstrap with two adjusting buckles. The strap is quite pliable but looks a little dry on its surface.
