Original era manufacture. Recently we purchased a number of items from the family of Sergeant Duane C. Hinkle, US Army, who served in the 735th Ordnance Company during WWII. According to his daughter and son-in-law, Sergeant Hinkle spoke of gathering up firearms and other weaponry, piled in the streets of a recently captured German town. These items were brought home from that pile after WWII.Standard pattern 1st model Luftwaffe dagger made by Weyersberg, complete with scabbard and chain suspension. The blade is verybright with no corrosion issues, however it does exhibit nicks along both sides of the cutting edges. Zinc fittings with some of the original finish remaining, the grip shows wear in spots to the leather covering, the wire binding is intact. The scabbard is complete, but shows wear and splitting toportions of the leather covering, and has a dent or two in its body.
