Original era manufacture. Luftwaffe M1935 steel helmet maker marked on the interior of the neck skirt Q (Quist), and size marked 64. Original satin finish paint with original decals as shown.Complete pliable leather liner with a dark finish and an intact adjusting cord. Complete and sound, leather chinstrap with an aluminum adjusting buckle. The best part of the helmet are the original unit markings stamped inside the liner. Sometimes, on early examples like this one, period unit markings can be seen, which add great deal to the history of the helmet during WWII.In this instance, the markings are II Jgschw.334 Mannheim, which became the famous German Luftwaffe Fighter Squadron JG53, "Pik As", a squadron which served throughout WWII including the Battle of Britain. Included with the helmet are the three volumes of the Schiffer publication detailing the history of JG53, from it's inception in March of 1937 as JG334, JG133 in 1938 and finally JG53 in May of 1939.
