Original period manufacture. A gorgeous, issue quality hat, which was purchased in the 1960's by our seller from the hands of the veteran who brought it home from WWII. Story is he found it in an abandoned barracks. The hat is complete with all insignia and chinstrap, not even a hint of a moth bite, and never crushed or flattened. The sweat shield is intact and the sweatband is securely sewn. Clear makers name under the shield Christian Haug, Berlin and size marked 53 1/2. Double unit ink stamps under the sweatband, E.B./Fl. R. 13, and the makers name and 1938 date, with an additional unit stamp, III Abtlg. flak=rgt.13. During WWII Flak Regiment 13 served as Flak-Gruppe Bremen Sud, 1943-45. Over 173 air raids were conducted by the RAF and USAAF, most occurring during the last two years of the war.
