Original era manufacture. This is a rather unusual variant to a very common buckle I would say., It is maker marked on the tab Schmole Menden, and bears the makers mark often seen on numerous pieces of WWII German metal equipment fittings, including the adjusting buckles on rifle slings, the SC Pinetree. Little of the original blue paint finish remains on the obverse, but a good bit of it remains on the reverse. The most unusual feature of this maker's Luftwaffe buckle is the lack of any pebbling inside the wreath around the eagle, the surface is smooth. The leather tab is original sewn, closed on three of the four sides, but loose on the upper side.
