Original era manufacture. Classic WWI German Army steel helmet, complete with original liner and partial chinstrap, displaying a mail-home label on the inside neck skirt. Nearly all of the original feldgrau paint finish remains, sound original brown leather liner with most of the original chinstrap remaining. The chinstrap is missing one of the adjusting buckles, it is otherwise complete. Plastered to the inside of the rear neck skirt is a rectangular section of medical adhesive, upon which is written the address of Mrs. Walter M. Long, 1130 10 Street, Boulder Colo. The helmet was mailed by Glenn H. Whitson, who served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Dental Corps, sailing to France in August 1918, and returned home as a Captain in June of 1919. Years ago WWI mailed home souvenir helmets were fairly common, Terri and I have owned a number of them, not so common anymore. A great personalized souvenir of the Great War with a researchable history.
