Original era manufacture. A very well-worn issue enlisted coat with lots of character. Feldgrau four-pocket coat, pleated pockets, pointed pocket flaps and a dark green wool collar. Clear interior size markings from the Stettin (St) depot and year date of 39. The BeVo collar tabs are original sewn, and are of the universal pattern having the waffenfarbe omitted. The original enlisted pattern coat eagle is a replacement but proper for the coat, and frankly most eagles have been resewn it seems. Slip-on feldgrau shoulder straps with a hand embroidered gothic "R" (Radfahrer) in white cotton thread on each. White wool piping with scattered mothing to the surfaces. These seem original enough (what a statement) at first glance, as both display moth issues, and the embroidery is of a high quality. When put under a UV light the exposed areas of backing material provided by Mr & Mrs Moth, show a interwoven base thread which does fluoresce under the light. So, for this conversation's sake let's call them suspect. The Oberschutze rank star is original but replaced. The coat itself exhibits considerable wear and tear, with patch and rip repairs and scattered moth bites throughout. In spite of the slings and arrows of time and use, the coat in my opinion remains very sound. All of the buttons are in place (some are correct period replacements) with proper pattern insignia as discussed. This pattern of coat is likely the most desirable of the Heer pattern enlisted issue coats, and with the 1939 issue date, a coat which saw nearly every day of WWII. Size about a 38-40 Regular.
