Original era manufacture. A clean example of a fairly scarce pattern helmet being a Luftschutz Police M40 steel helmet. Standard Luftschutz beaded combat helmet, finished in satin blue paint with a Police decal on the left side and NSDAP shield on the right as shown. The outline of the original Luftschutz eagle remains visible under the paint on the front of the helmet. Maker marked NS66 on the neckskirt with a lot number of 0221. All of the original matching paint rivets remain.Sound original military pattern leather liner with steel liner band with an original intact adjusting string. The liner band is for a smaller size helmet, marked NA62 and 54 below. Showing a noticeable gap between the helmet shell and liner band. Each of the split pins on the rivets has their slot washer in place. Intact and complete military style leather chinstrap.The exterior of the helmet shell has a scattered speckling of white garage paint with a few other larger splotches of the same color appearing on the underside of the visor and on the leather liner. In closing I believe this to be an honest example showing period alterations for a need during the war years.
