Original era manufacture. This most unusual helmet was a recent find by a gentleman here in Arizona as a local Gunshow walk-in. It's a standard M1940 steel helmet, maker and size marked ET-64 on the interior of the skirt. The liner band is dated 1940 as are the rivet prongs and original leather chinstrap. Most of the dark feldgrau paint finish remains on both the exterior and interior of the helmet. Now here is where it gets interesting. A quick glance at the helmet shows it to be of Field Police issue with traces of the Police decal on the left side (wearers) and National decal on the right side, however, very plainly an SS decal can be seen beneath the National decal on the right side. On the interior of the neck skirt a name and unit designation appear in white paint, along with what we read as Feldpost number, 19555. There is an online site where Feldpost numbers can be identified by simply typing the number in. Number 10555 identifies a Luftwaffe Flak unit, while 19555 identifies .4.Schwadron SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 1 Befehlshaber Sdost, from  February 1941 until July of that year. The helmet has not been cleaned or improved upon, light speckles of white garage paint can be seen on the interior and exterior of the helmet, with dust and grime in all the right places. Quite an intriguing helmet with lots of potential for further research.
