Original period manufacture. A very nice example of the pre WWII Kriegsmarine officers sword by Horster. The polished steel blade measures 31 inches in length, with frosted etched panels on each side of the blade, andfloral etching on the blade spine. No corrosion issues to the metal surface, no nicks in the cutting edge, just a slight bend to the left about 10 inches from the point. The white wool felt bumper is in place at the base of the blade. Gilded brass finish to the guard, with both sides being able to fold-up for wear, back strap and lion head pommel, with deeply incised decoration, and red/green glass eyes for the lion. Damage free, cream colored grip wrapping which is bound with double strand wire binding. Fastened to the back strap, and wrapped around the ferrule of the grip, is a very nice gold wire knot. The black leather bodied scabbard is in very nice condition, with nearly all of the original gilding remaining on the throat, suspension fitting and chape.
