Original era manufacture. Golden brown wool body, with a darker brown velvet band and blue piping. All of the insignia is original to the hat, the visor is tightly stitched, and there are no issues with the lining, sweatband or sweat shield.The only flaw to this sound old hat is some scattered mothing to the blue wool piping. There are about seven spots on the top edge of piping which have been chewed on, the largest of which measures about 10 mm in width. I have had some luck in the past making these more or less disappear, by either coloring the backing material in a similar color to the piping, or, carefully scraping the remaining piping with a razor and filling the void with clue and the wool residue.The other option, and likely the best in this case IMHO, would be to simply leave it alone, at present, it is exactly as it came to us from the family of the soldier who brought it home.One of the souvenirs brought home from WWII by a US Army officer who served with the 282nd Combat Engineers.
