Original era manufacture. A very striking helmet, of a pattern used by German aviators during WWI.Black gloss finish to the leather body, with a thickly padded comb and rim. Large format, second pattern eagle of zinc with blackened background to the NSKK lettering and swastika. The interior of the helmet has a thick brown wool lining, the leather sweatband has been removed by a previous owner, perhaps for wear, who knows. The fold-down leather ear flaps and securing buckle are intact and pliable, the front visor is a bit loose, as is one side of the fold-down flap, the result of the stitching being cut during the removal of the sweatband. It does not flop down, stays in position as it should, and is fine for display.
