Original period manufacture. Early pattern dagger, with nickel fittings, maker marked blade and black painted scabbard body. The blade is clean, shows a nice contrast to the motto with glimpses of crossgrain polish beneath the grime. There is staining from age but no corrosion pitting and the tip is quite sharp. Sound dark wood grip with a nice lustre to the finish, both emblems are in place, no chips or cracks in the wood. The scabbard body retains most of its original black paint finish with most of the paint loss occuring on the lower leading edge. A natural wear spot where one expect to see evidence of use. All of the scabbard screw fittings are present with the lower ball being flattened. Sound original leather hanger attached to the suspension ring.
