Original era manufacture. This uniform set was purchased locally from a man, who as a child in the 1960's, was given the set as a gift from a neighbor. The boy wore it while playing army with the other neighborhood kids until told to take off by an irate WWII veteran. The uniform was boxed away until it was reunited with the now grown man many years later, and so the story goes. Now let's take a look at the details. Black wool panzer wrapper with what look to be original sewn tabs with the brass skull prongs piercing the underside of the collar. Beautiful panzer enlisted bevo style eagle which is handsewn to the breast of the tunic, slip-on, pink piped shoulder straps with the piping of a rayon like material. Seven, identical size black plastic closure buttons which measure 17mm in width. Adjustable cuff ends with a black cotton lining, slightly smaller black plastic buttons in use here. The lining appears to be a cotton/rayon mix, gray in color and without damage. There is a buckram reinforcement cloth on the underside of the lining in each shoulder. A variety of issue stamps can be seen on the lining, topmost is a rectangle showing B.II.39, below that a makers name of G.MANTZKE followed by the size information numbers. On the left pocket is another, larger rectangular stamp which has been partially blocked out, with a line below and what may be a date of 1941r. If it is what I believe it is, that's a Russian studio stamp, and puts paid to the nice story of the little boy. Three sets of identical numbers appear below, 31070, one is handwritten and the other two are inkstamped, one darker than the other. The condition of the wrapper is very, very nice only flaw I could see was one pinhole mothbite. The EK2 and Ostfront ribbons in the lapel are handstitched and do not glow under a UV. The black wool straight leg trousers which came with the wrapper have side pockets and a single rear pocket with flap over the right hip. There is a watch pocket at front and identical German made tan plastic buttons are used throughout. The cuffs are cut on a slant with black cotton reinforcement tape located in the inside front. Striped rayon waistband lining with heavy white cotton pocket linings. They are a good color match to the wrapper and appear contemporary to it. The last item which came with the wrapper is a panzer em overseas hat in a very large size, at least a 60. There is a handstitched bevo gray on black enlisted eagle at front along with a KM style cockade below. The pink soutache has been handstitched by the seller. The lining is of black cotton and shows wear to the top portion. The material is of a type that shows a mixed hue, little brown flecks which may have occurred during wear and use, as when you pull the turn-up down there is a distinct color difference between the two areas.
