Original period manufacture. Sepia image of the battleship Gneisenau, sister ship to the Scharnhorst. Launched in 1936 and commissioned in 1938. During WWII she briefly sortied into the North Atlantic, participated in the Invasion of Norway, and the Channel Dash in early 1942. She was severely damaged during a British bombing raid while in drydock, with repairs never being completed. Her main armament was removed and used for coastal defense. She was sunk as a blocking ship in March 1945, she was raised postwar and scrapped in 1951.
