Original era manufacture. Standard pattern hewer worn by enlisted personnel of the RAD. Early quality with nickel fittings and real staghorn grips. The blade is maker marked Gottleib-Hammesfahr on its ricasso. The scabbard body shows some minor denting near the tip but none in the body itself, one of the upper scabbard fitting screws is missing. Overall the hewer shows considerable age and the effects of poor storage especially on the scabbard body. The blade is relatively clean, showing graying and spotting to its surface but no deep pitting and the Arbeit Adelt motto is clearly visible. No damage to the staghorn grips, typical dings and dents to the nickel pommel and guard. The scabbard body retains about 10 percent of its original black paint finish with the remainder being a dark steel patina from age and surface corrosion. Again, no deep pitting, we have made no attempt to clean this hewer beyond a bit of polish to the blade surface.
