Original period manufacture. A sound example of this massive WWII RAD dagger. Clean blade with light motto contrast and makers mark on the ricasso. No blade issues beyond some light scattered staining, no pitting or corrosion damage, with an even steel patina finish to the surface.Nickel plated pommel and guard showing some age staining, with an even patina finish, but no damage to the finish surface. Sound, real stag grips held in place with their original screws. The scabbard body is dent-free, retains nearly all of its original black painted finish, with just some light surface crazing to the finish. Matching nickel scabbard fittings with some staining on the obverse of the lower fitting as shown, no pitting is present. Matching unit numbers of Fu 237 can be seen on the base of the grip, and top of the scabbard throat. The 1937 dated leather frog is quite sound, no dry rot, the stitching is tight, and the leather is quite stout. Nickel suspension clip which is Assman marked on its reverse. The spring-loaded retention plate is out of alignment, making it a little difficult to take the hanger off of the hewer. With a little work this can be rectified. An untouched original dagger, showing light age and wear. One of the souvenirs brought home from WWII by a US Army officer who served with the 282nd Combat Engineers.
