Original era manufacture. A genuine WWII bring back, purchased from the son of the Chemical Mortar Battalion Sergeant who brought it home with him at the end of WWII.Sadly, it was stored in a damp location for many years, resulting in the black cloth forming the design of the swastika, to deteriorate, and literally to crumble away. The base fabric is very sound, as is the silver fringe around three sides of the flag. The central design of the shovel and wheat sheaths show wear and some deterioration, but nothing like the arms of the swastika. The silver trim which outlined the swastika is intact for the most part, with small sections missing, mostly on one side. An honorific name, von Haesler is embroidered onto two rectangular panels, which are machine-sewn to each side as shown.Overall the flag is clean and bright looking in spite of the damage, with some light scattered mothing but nothing severe. It was quite an ornate flag in its day, and of high quality construction.
