Original era manufacture. Here is one used and abused example, best thing we can say is that it came home from WWII this way. The blade is a wreck and both sides of the wooden grips have little notches carved into both sides. Clear WaA518 proof on the pommel. No scabbard. Perhaps the GI was attempting to make a fighting knife out of it, should have left well enough alone.
