Original era manufacture. Early war production by Coppel showing a 1940 date and satin blue finish overall. The serial number of 7886 may be seen on the ricasso and scabbard throat. This example is part of the large (112 pieces) collection of WWII era German bayonets we recently purchased. Often the collector we purchased these from made notations regarding particular details of each bayonet, writing them on small strips of adhesive paper attached to the scabbards. In this instance his notes report "factory letter mix" as the letter code on the scabbard is j, while on the blade a faint letter k can be seen. Overall the bayonet is very clean, dark plum bakelite grips, satin blue finish with a sharp blade tip. There is a shallow dent in the scabbard body near the tip and the blade is very slightly bent at the hilt, no scabbard throat screw, in spite of those defects it is very, very clean.
