Original era manufacture. Recently we purchased a number of items from the family of Sergeant Duane C. Hinkle, US Army, who served in the 735th Ordnance Company during WWII. According to his daughter and son-in-law, Sergeant Hinkle spoke of gathering up firearms and other weaponry, piled in the streets of a recently captured German town. These items were brought home from that pile after WWII.Standard pattern WWII K98 bayonet, with both scabbard and blade being made by asw and year dated 1944. The serial numbers however do not match. The blade is clean with most of the finish remaining, with spots of staining from oil, sharp point, and unsharpened edge. Mix of blue and steel patina to the guard, flashguard and pommel, with scattered areas of surface corrosion. Sound dark red bakelite grips with no cracks or chips. The scabbard is free of dents, the throat screw is present and the finish is a mix of steel patina and cleaned surface corrosion.
