Original era manufacture. Handsome looking bust with an interesting history. I'm aware of the oft-repeated statement "buy the item, not the story" and in general am inclined to agree with it. However, when the item is purchased from the hands of the man who brought it back from Germany, then its worth repeating I believe. A friend of ours, a man whom we have known for well over 30 years, has reached the age when it is time to downsize and rid himself of things he doesn't wish to burden his wife with. Such is the case here. "Doc" as we have always known him, served in that capacity with the USAF for many years, spending much of that time stationed in Germany. It was during those years he acquired this bust from a German man, who as a child, found the bust in the rubble of a bombed out building in Bitburg. A German city near the Luxembourg border, which was considered a "dead city" after the allied bombings which left it nearly completely destroyed. The man took the bust home, cleaned it up a bit and then carefully reattached the soldiers head to his neck. You can see the repair and there is also a chip on the reverse side of the marble base, but it still displays quite well and is of excellent quality. It stands 9 inches tall, with a nicely contrasting finish to the soldier, featuring a feldgrau finished helmet and a ebony colored head and shoulders.
