Original era manufacture. Standard WWII S84/98 bayonet maker marked asw (Horster) with a non matching scabbard. What sets this bayonet apart are the four grooves machined into the spine of the blade, certainly purposefully and deliberately done. What was the reason is a matter of conjecture, one that was put forth was to raise up strands of barbed wire, certainly as good as any.The bayonet displays normal age and wear overall with an even steel patina finish, with nice wood grips. The scabbard is also made by asw, is lightly dented but corrosion free.
