Original era manufacture. An early production example with a Berlin district marking on the reverse of the lower guard fitting (III), maker marked Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen-Foche on the blade. Full Meine Ehre Heist Treue motto on the obverse. The blade is bright, unsharpened with traces of the cross grain polish visible. There is evidence of old cleaned corrosion on both sides of the blade, mostly near the tip. Nickel upper and lower grip fittings. securing nut and eagle, with an enameled SS rune set into the upper portion of the wooden grip. While there are no chips or missing portions of the grip, several thin cracks can be seen; the longest of which runs diagonally, right to left, from the top of the grip nearly to the bottom. Next to that is another diagonal crack extending up from the lower fitting; about an inch in length. Steel bodied scabbard with nickel fittings, all mounting screws are present. The body of the scabbard displays evidence of cleaned corrosion, with several areas of pitting. The finish has been intelligently restored with metal blue, the result being the scabbard is presentable display-wise without trying to fool anyone.Attached to the suspension ring is a black patent leather strap with a chromed snaphook.
