Original period manufacture. A beautiful sword by Horster, featuring a 33 inch chrome finished steel blade, with an etched spine, and both sides of the blade displaying etched panels. The reverse side of the blade has an etched panel of a horse drawn artillery piece with mounted riders, and on the obverse, an open panel etched Artillerie-Regiment 31. Each side displays the German eagle with swastika. The blade is mirror-bright, with no issues, Horster logo on the ricasso. Black plastic wrapped grip which is bound with triple strand wire, and wrapped around the grip itself, is a properly tied leather knot with a red-yellow-gray acorn. Engraved into the obverse langet are the original owners initials of EV. The black painted steel scabbard retains nearly all of its original paint finish and is dent free. Both throat screws are present. During WWII, Artillery Regiment 31 served with the 31st Infantry Division. Seeing combat in Poland, Belgium, France and the Russian Front during the war. Overwhelmed and nearly wiped out during the Russian Summer Offensive of 1944, it was rebuilt, returning once again to the East, only to be destroyed on the outskirts of Berlin in 1945.
