Original era documents and photography. A lot of two original documents, and small snapshot photo, named and attributed to one man, Matrosenobergefreiter Heinz Gieseler. Both documents display a stamped signature of Admiral Doernitz, with both being awarded on the 24th of July 1942. The small snapshot displays a penciled notation on its reverse, indicating the owner to be the sailor second from right. With the grouping at the time of our purchase was a small slip of paper, marked U386. Online research provides information regarding U386, a type VIIC boat, commissioned in October 1942. U386 was credited with the sinking of one ship, and, was herself sent to the bottom, by HMS Spey in February 1944, with the loss of 33 of her crew, with 16 survivors being picked up. Bootsmannsmaat Heinz Gieseler was listed among the survivors.Other research for the name, Heinz Gieseler, a listing came up for one, Karl-Heinz Gieseler, who served aboard the very successful U-124. A type IXB boat, U-124 was credited with the sinking of over 46 ships, including two warships, damaging four other vessels, for a total of over 250,000 tons of shipping, during 11 combat cruises until her loss with all hands in March of 1943. I did not find another Gieseler during my search. There are some small tears in the edges of the U-Boot document, with a small hole near the upper left corner. The EK2 document is in a period wood frame.
