German WWII Weapon Maintenance Car & Inner Containers, BSW 1938

Original period manufacture. A pattern of can which saw service in WWI as a double ammunition box for I believe 500 rounds. These were later produced as weapon's maintenance cans which contain four smaller containers, two for gun oil (oel) and two for solvent (Petroleum). A large contract for these cans and other German ordnance was delivered to Portugal prior to WWII, they are identical to ours save for the Portuguese markings on the interior cans, Oleo & Petroleo. This can retains nearly 100% of its original dark ordnance green paint with a waffenamt proof on the lower right side corner and the letters BSW 1938 beneath the carrying handle.
