US Civil War Centennial Ceramic Ashtray, "Johnny Reb"

Item #68371 : Original period manufacture. Period ceramic ashtray made in the form of a stylized Confederate army forage cap. Measures 3.75 inches in length, with a tiny bit of scorching to the interior, indicating it's happily brief employment for its intended purpose. There are a few very minor chips in the inner rim but nothing terrible. In 1961 I was 10 years old, our family of six lived in southeast Pennsylvania. For our summer family trip that year, the plan was a weekend touring the battlefield of Gettysburg. My younger brothers and I were filled with anticipation for all of the amazing relics we just knew were waiting for us to discover there. It's fun now to remember how disappointed we were when we discovered that all of the battle debris had been cleaned up long ago. We thought relics would be laying everywhere just for the picking.
