Original era manufacture. Chrome plated steel blade measuring 11.25 inches in length, with an elaborate etched design on each side of the blade. There is some minor lifting to the plating on each side of the blade near the tip.Cast, gilded brass guard with a dolphin motif, brass ferrule and pommel with a white composition grip bound with twisted brass wire. There is a small chip in the white grip covering, just below the pommel on the reverse. It measures about 3 x 7 mm. Very nice brass scabbard with an elaborate decoration on the obverse, featuring Neptune's face at the tip. No major denting to report, pleasing brass patina finish overall. This is the dagger that our Engineer officer received from a Hungarian Navy officer at the surrender of a Danube River Flotilla in 1945.One of the souvenirs brought home from WWII by a US Army officer who served with the 282nd Combat Engineers.
