Original era photography. A wonderful, large size sepia toned image of the Duke of Connaught, 3rd son of Victoria and Albert and the longest living male child of that union. He was born in May of 1850 and died in January of 1942. During his lifetime he witnessed an amazing series of events, in a wide variety of technological, cultural and historical developments. He served in the Royal Army for nearly 40 years and rose to the rank of Field Marshal in 1902, Inspector General of Forces 1904-1907 and Governor General of Canada in 1911. The image resides in a fine quality gilded brass frame with a beveled glass front. A simple, single prop-leg supports the frame while standing. It bears a patent date of 1881 on the reverse. The image shows the Duke in full military uniform with his orders and medals in full veiw. The image measures 6.75x11.5 inches with the frame being slightly larger. Really a magnificent artifact.
