Original period manufacture. This is a wonderful old sword, one I like to think of as having seen use during the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857,certainly one which was not made for commercial purposes such as a souvenir. The handmade curved blade measures 27 inches in length and remains fairly sharp. It has a few slight bends to it no doubt from service use. Well made steel guard and grip with a skull crusher pommel. The scabbard body is covered in a rather thick hide, perhaps elephant, with adecorated metal tip and a leather covered scabbard throat. A leather collar with fragments of colored thread stitch decoration can be seen beneath the brown leather feltfrog. The sword fits the hand well and is well balanced. "....now in Inja's sunny clime, where I used to spend me time, in the service of her Majesty the Queen. Of all the black-facedcrew, the finest man I knew, was our Regimental Bhisti, Gunga Din"...my apologies to Rudyard Kipling.
