During the Great War IR 111, 3rd Baden infantry served with two divisions, the 28th until 1917, and the 52nd until the Armistice in November 1918. During the Meuse Argonne Offensive, September 1918, the 52nd Division encountered the following divisions of the A.E.F.; Big Red One 1st Division, Red Arrow 32nd Division, Santa Fe 35th Division, Wild West 91st Division, particularly the night of 29-30 September 1918.
